║ ▒▓█ First Things █▓▒ ║
╚══════════════════════╝
There is no warrantee and I take no responsibility for anything that might
happen as a result of using this program. Ok, so now that I've got that out
of the way, I'm pretty sure that it won't harm your computer or disk drives
in any way. To be sure, back up your Qecho.ctl file(s) before using it.
╔══════════════════════╗
║ ▒▓█ Introduction █▓▒ ║
╚══════════════════════╝
Qecho Manager is the first attempt at making it easier for a new sysop to
use Qecho. It provides help screens, defaults and easy to use prompts to aid
the new sysop in setting up Qecho. Qecho Manager consists of two programs,
Qe_man, which is used to edit/maintain/create Qecho.ctl files and Area_bbs,
which is used to edit/maintain/create Areas.bbs file.
I know that some people don't want to hear this but Qecho Manager is not
freeware. It is shareware but affordable. I worked long and hard on it and
I think $7.5 is more than reasonable for my efforts. For now, Qecho Manager
is not crippled but that doesn't mean that it won't be in the future. What
you see is what you get. This release only works with QuickBBS 2.75 directly
but it will work with RA (Read on to see how).
╔═════════════════════════╗
║ ▒▓█ Getting Started █▓▒ ║
╚═════════════════════════╝
Make sure that you put a copy of Qe_man.exe, Qe_man.hlp and Area_bbs.exe
into your BBS directory. Pretty tough, huh? CVQ is used to make an areas.bbs
file from your config.bbs (QuickBBS 2.75 only). Use 275to266 to make this.
If you are running RA, you will need to get a copy of Qconfig 2.75 and run
it in your BBS directory. Enter in the evaluation key and enter in your node
numbers. Escape and save the contents. CVR will convert the messages.ra into
an areas.bbs. I know it's a pain but I plan on making an RA-specific version
after I have worked out the bugs in Qe_man and Area_bbs.
The current evaluation key for QuickBBS 2.75 is 2098791410. If you already
have a QuickBBS 2.75 key (or QuickBBS 2.66 key), use that instead.
╔══════════════════════════╗
║ ▒▓█ Running Area_bbs █▓▒ ║
╚══════════════════════════╝
To run the program, type Area_bbs at the DOS prompt. That's it.
╔════════════════════════╗
║ ▒▓█ Running Qe_man █▓▒ ║
╚════════════════════════╝
If you are using a monochrome system, type Qe_man M at the DOS prompt. If
you are using a color system, just type Qem_man.
When you first start up, you will see the indicator block positioned over
the configure option. You can either press Enter and change the mailer type
to something other than Front Door (Startup Default) or just press ESC. Front
Door is assumed at first and it will not allow you to edit the OUTBOUNDPATH
(Which can cause you a world of grief if you are using Front Door). Once the
configuation is chosen, it is saved to disk and you won't have to reconfigure
the program unless you change mailers. Only the OUTBOUNDPATH is affected at
this time. The next version (3.1) will use this to limit your options and it
won't even let you out of the program until the required information has
been entered.
ESC will take you out of a prompt or back a menu. The only exception is if
you are in a path prompt and tried to enter a blank line. Home takes you to
the top of a menu while end takes you to the bottom. Use the Up and Down keys
to move through the menu. On the Config/Qecho/Exit menu, the left and right
arrows will cycle through the choices. Home takes you to Config and End takes
you to Exit.
╔═════════════════════╗
║ ▒▓█ Limitations █▓▒ ║
╚═════════════════════╝
It only handles up to 10 areas.bbs files. This doesn't mean that you can
only have 10, just that it will only store 10 names in it's default file.
If you need to use more, just delete a few default files from the program
and add the new ones.
It only handles up to 20 packer statements. I really don't see a need for
any more than that and with the Archiver statement, there should be no need
to use the packer statement unless you use more than one type of compression.
It doesn't support arc/unarc. That's what the packer statement's for. I'm
being a little bold but...

║ ▒▓█ Features █▓▒ ║
╚══════════════════╝
You can navigate through the menus using the up, down, home and end keys.
When editing a field, you can use the insert and delete keys, home, end and
control-home (clear out the field). There are help screens that describe the
qecho.ctl and areas.bbs statements. The program can also create an areas.bbs
from your config.bbs file (You must run 275to266 to create this file).
I tried to make it as simple to use as possible and so this is about it
for documents. I will be releasing an update version (3.1) which will have
more extensive documents plus a new Area_bbs program. This version is meant
to update the older version and to show you that I have not been neglecting
the program, just rewriting it.

╚═════════════════════╝
Thanks to the Beta Team: Peter Kling, George Vandervort, Robert Winters
and Shawn McMahon. Their suggestions and bug reports have made this version
what it is today.
